Description
2.5 Carat Round Lab Diamond Cushion Halo Engagement Ring – Split Shank, 14K Yellow Gold
This ring is built around one of the best performing combinations in diamond jewellery: a round brilliant Ideal cut center stone inside a cushion halo. The 2.50 carat center diamond is graded F colour and VS1 clarity, and cut to Ideal proportions — meaning every facet is angled for maximum light return. The cushion halo surrounds it with 40 smaller diamonds in a soft, rounded frame. The split shank band adds width and presence without adding weight, and makes the center cluster appear even larger from the front.

Why This Design Works
A round brilliant in a cushion halo is the most requested engagement ring configuration for good reason. The round cut produces more brilliance than any other shape — its 57 or 58 facets are mathematically optimised for light performance, and at Ideal cut grade, every proportion is dialled to its peak. The cushion halo adds a soft, pillow-shaped ring of diamonds around the center stone, a design that dates to the Victorian era and remains the most popular halo style because of how it frames the center without competing with it.
The split shank is the element that modernises the design. As the band approaches the setting it divides into two parallel strips, creating a wider, more substantial look at the finger while keeping the band itself slim and comfortable to wear. The visual effect makes the front of the ring — already large at over 3 total carats — appear even more substantial from across a table.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a cushion halo and how is it different from a regular halo?
A halo is a ring of smaller diamonds set around the perimeter of the center stone. A cushion halo specifically uses a rounded, pillow-shaped frame — the corners of the halo are soft curves rather than sharp angles. This gives the ring a softer, more vintage feel compared to a square or round straight halo, and it visually blends the center stone into the frame rather than creating a hard border. For a round center stone, a cushion halo creates a layered, blooming effect that adds significant visual size.
What does Ideal cut mean and why does it matter?
Cut grade refers to how precisely the diamond’s facets, angles, and proportions are executed — not the shape. An Ideal cut round brilliant has proportions that return virtually all incoming light back through the top of the stone as brightness, fire (rainbow dispersion), and scintillation (sparkle when the stone moves). A diamond cut to Good or Very Good standards can look noticeably duller in the same light conditions. Ideal cut is the top grade — only a small percentage of diamonds achieve it — and it has a direct, visible impact on how much the ring sparkles.
What does F color VS1 clarity mean for this ring?
F falls in the near-colorless range on the GIA scale — one step below the pure colorless D and E grades. To the naked eye, an F diamond looks completely white with no detectable tint. In yellow gold, the warm metal provides a contrast that makes colorless grades appear even brighter. VS1 (Very Slightly Included) means the diamond has no inclusions visible to the naked eye — it is completely eye-clean, and inclusions require magnification to locate. Both grades represent excellent quality without paying the premium for D/FL.
What is a split shank?
A split shank ring has a band that divides into two separate strips as it approaches the center setting, rather than remaining a single continuous band all the way around. The two strips typically curve outward to meet the base of the halo or setting. This does three things: it makes the front of the ring look wider and more substantial, it creates decorative negative space between the two strips, and it makes the finger look slimmer because the band is not a solid block. It is one of the most popular band styles for halo rings precisely because it scales the proportions to the larger center cluster.
How many diamonds are in this ring total?
41 diamonds in total: 1 center stone (2.50 carats, Ideal cut round brilliant) and 40 halo diamonds (E color VS1, totalling 0.50 carats). Combined total carat weight is 3.01 carats.
Can I change the metal or gold karat?
Yes. This ring can be made in 14K or 18K gold in yellow, white, or rose. Contact us before ordering — call 917-477-8663 or message through the site. Yellow gold is the default shown in the photos.
Can I choose a different center stone size?
Yes. We can build this design with a round brilliant center from 1 to 4 carats. Call 917-477-8663 with your budget and we’ll price it out. Different colour and clarity grades are also available.
Is a lab-grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes — chemically and physically identical to a mined diamond. Same carbon crystal structure, same hardness of 10, same refractive index and light performance. The only difference is origin. This diamond comes with an IGI certificate confirming its cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight.
